Equal opportunity will be given to anyone fitting the pre requisite above, who are capable of officiating at the desired level.

The procedure for qualification.

Initially all candidates must have a provincial Referee status.

Candidates must attend one National training course prior to attempting Judge Qualification.

The candidate can attempt the Kumite theory paper and achieve minimum 80% pass mark in order to move to second stage of assessment; if successful any qualification must be ratified at a recognised National event by the Referee Commission.

Once Judge ‘B’ has been achieved they must attend one recognised National event and perform to the required standard.

After officiating at two national events judge ‘A’ can be attempted provided the theory and Assessment procedure is adhered to.

After another two national events as Judge ‘A’ the candidate may attempt to qualify as Referee ‘B’, the theory paper must be taken and be passed at the min 90% and pass the assessment before the final practical examination which will be ratified if a successful performance is completed at an  SA  National event.

The same procedure applies to Referee ‘A’.

Once qualified all National qualified officials must attend one National event and course per year, and undertake the theory exam every two years. There will be no charge for the theory exam for ‘A’ qualified Referees.

Should an official fail to attend the regulation course and event within one calendar year, after considering the circumstances the Referee Commission may require them to re-qualify at the last level they achieved.

In order to have the opportunity to be considered for International qualification, the Referee must have operated as a National Tatami Chief for two years and have attended minimum of two out of three major home country events per annum.

Kata Qualification

Same procedure as for Kumite, in addition the candidate is expected to perform two Shitei Kata, one from their own style and one from one of the other major styles and answer questions regarding bunkai relating to the Kata performed  for judge B and the two of his/her style plus two  others for Judge A .
