FINALLY WE DID IT!! Here is the first edition of the Karate SA Newsletter. As you know, the last few years there has been quite some negative effects in karate in South Africa, but these were overshadowed by all the good and this good was the yardstick by which we have and will measure the next few years. Find below some of the more recent activities.
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The past two years has been spend on uniting karate in South Africa under the auspices of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and has culminated with the approval of a new KSA Constitution and the election of a new leadership. This process has been supported by the World Karate Federation (WKF) and all the major Full Contact styles in South Africa. The newly elected National Executive Committee held a planning workshop on 16 June 2008 and the following is some of the new initiatives to be implemented immediately:
Improved communication procedure
KSA office
Newsletter
Website
Development programme
Finalisation of Regional and Provincial structures and
Setting up KSA Commissions
We congratulate all our athletes and officials who participated in the Commonwealth Karate Championships held in Scotland and we applaud those who won medals. We look forward to next year’s event that will be held in India. Thank you to all the coaches, managers and referees who accompanied the team and contributed to the athletes success. We furthermore look forward to sending a South African team to participate in the UFAK Championship to take place in Benin and to the 19th WKF World Championship to take place in Tokyo, Japan during 12-19 November 2008. We also wish our many athletes and officials well, including our Full Contact affiliates, when they participate in the various style World Championships during 2008.
This year’s activities will culminate with the KSA Annual Awards to be held in Pretoria on 28 November 2008. We look forward to give national recognition to our athletes and officials who excelled during 2008.

In January next year the 14 & 15 years will become, for the first time ever, an official WKF age category world-wide.
