Certification of Officials

Referees and Judges Testing Procedure

In order to improve standards of officiating and provide methods for the training, testing and certification of officials.

Classification and Requirements for Referee’s

Judge Class C

1. Eligibility - All Class C Judges must:

  • be Fourth Kyu or higher in rank,
  • be Fourteen years of age or older,
  • must be a currently registered member of KSA via their Provincial structure.

Judge Class B

1. Eligibility - All Class B Judges must:

  • be First Kyu or higher in rank,
  • be Fourteen years of age or older,
  • must be a currently registered member of KSA via their Provincial structure.
  • must have a basic knowledge of First Aid as applicable to karate.

Judge Class A

1. Eligibility - All Class A Judges must:

  • be First Dan or higher in rank,
  • be Sixteen years of age or older,
  • have been certified as Class B Judge at least one year,
  • must be a currently registered member of KSA via their Provincial structure.

2. Requirements

  • Class A Judges must
  • Attend two or more Referee’s seminars conducted by the Referee’s Committee
  • Officiate at least two or more sanctioned Championships within two years.
  • Pay Referee’s annual dues.

Referee Class B

1. Eligibility - All Class B referees must:

  • be Second Dan or higher in rank,
  • be twenty years of age or older,
  • have been certified as Judge Class A at least one year,
  • must be a currently registered member of KSA via their Provincial structure,
  • participate and pass the Class B Referee’s Examination at the Referee’s Seminar.

2. Requirements

A. Class B Referee’s must

  • Attend two or more Referee’s seminars conducted by the Referee’s Committee,
  • Officiate at least two or more sanctioned Championships within two years.
  • Pay Referee’s annual dues.
  • must have gained proficiency in judging Knockdown competition.

Referee Class A

1. Eligibility - All Class A referees must:

  • be Third Dan or higher in rank,
  • be twenty years of age or older,
  • have been certified as Class B (National) Referee at least two years,
  • must be a currently registered member of KSA via their Provincial structure,
  • participate and pass the Class A Referee’s Examination at the Referee’s Seminar.

2. Requirements

A. Class A Referee’s must

  • Attend two or more Provincial or National level Referee’s seminars conducted by the Referee’s Committee,
  • Officiate at least two or more National Championships within two years.
  • Be proficient in both Clicker and Knockdown type competition.
  • Must have a solid understanding of First Aid as applicable to karate.
  • Pay Referee’s annual dues.
